Rock Chalk Park- Stadium & Recreation Center

Lawrence, Kansas

Architects:  Paul Werner Architects & Gould Evans

Structural engineering analysis, design and detailing of the 7,500+ seat track and field, 2,000+ seat soccer, and 1,000+ seat softball stadiums.  The outdoor stadiums include cast-in-place concrete stadium seating, multi-level steel press box structures, concrete dug out structures, and misc. steel concession structures, restroom, and equipment storage structures.  A cast-in-place concrete and steel roof framed indoor softball practice facility was also included as part of this project.

Structural analysis, design and detailing of the 181,000 SF recreation center.  This multi-story structure was constructed of insulated tilt-up concrete wall panels, long span steel roof joists, composite steel floor beam, and concrete foundation and retaining walls.

The construction documents for both projects were prepared using a 3-D model (Revit 2013).  This was essential in coordinating the complex multi-level structural steel framing with embed plates in tilt up panels.  Challenges included clearance requirements for the basketball court areas as well as framing coordination with insulated tilt up wall panels.
